If you're like me, and your mind either has a gazillion linked ideas, resulting in shutdowns (unable to think, feel, do anything), plus short-term memory impairments, then there are ways to capture things, to use creatively, later. Some ways are journalling and visual arts.
I decided to crack open a journal from 2018, specifically with September in mind. To see if there were other reasons I am quite set on publishing my memoir in September 2023 (so far, that is well within reach). September 2018 was when I painted Snowball, who became the cover art for my novel, Pet Purpose: Your Unspoken Voice. The painting helped me to focus on completing my goal. I self-published Pet Purpose in 2021.

I tend to write a blog post when there's something I want to expand on a little but not include in my current book projects. But I may revisit the themes later. I can touch-type reasonably well, a skill I learnt as teenager. My hand writing is usually very messy and I tend to journal more in my own form of shorthand and loose mindmaps.
The topic for this blog post is bullies and brats. Just to get some ideas out that are going through my head, so that I can get back to focussing on my current book project. Linked to my memoir but this is not directly going into my memoir, as I want to focus on the storyline. Recently when I was struggling with my mental health, I decided to go for a walk to a pretty rugged reserve near home. It was an overcast evening. I saw a very small hedgehog walking along the path. I have never seen a hedgehog that small before in the entire five decades of my life. This was my clearest photo: I quickly walked back home to get my camera. The little hedgehog had walked quite some distance but was still by the path but hiding in some grass. I walked away then very quietly walked closer and waited. It came out of the grass and I filmed some snippets plus took photos from over a metre away. It even walked toward me, less than a foot (around 30cm) away from the camera. It was such a lovely experience to have a little hedgehog friend. Apparently a hedgehog of that size (approx than 3 inches or 8cm long) is around 2 months old and called a hoglet. Hedgehogs were introduced to New Zealand (by the English, I think). This photo gives more an idea of scale. Was less than a third of the size of an adult hedgehog. There was still enough light to take some photos and video. The video clip compliation has all video I took, in sequence. It seems to be quite popular. Seems it's uncommon to see a juvenille hedgehog in the wild. |
