Books about relationships with disabilities
Xanthe Wyse currently writes about relationships with disabilities, inspired by her experiences. Not saccharine romance stories but instead raw, gritty, intense and passionate themes (injected with colourful humour and drama).
Her vision is four linked, yet separate stories: two memoirs and two novels. Two are published, Bipolar Courage (memoir) is expected to be published in 2023 and Soar Purpose (novel) hopefully by 2025. Pet Purpose: Your Unspoken Voice was a number 1 bestseller in biographical fiction on Amazon during a free promotion. Not bad for an indie author, aye? |
Indie author
Xanthe choose self-publishing from the beginning, as she didn't want her voice altered nor to have the pressure of deadlines. Plus, she has previously worked part-time as an assistant for a traditional publishing company. So she knows this route is expensive and slow (and generally only picked up by those popular on social media).
So independent publishing (indie publishing) was her choice from the beginning. Pet Purpose was published from New Zealand, with the first copy being purchased from the USA. Although Xanthe didn't sell high volume on a shoe-string budget, Pet Purpose still went international, bought by readers in at least 13 countries.
Xanthe started a book about how to write, format and self-publish your own story on a shoestring budget but that's now on the backburner. She has notes for a few other book ideas but they are on the backburner too. The thing with a creative mind, is there are so many ideas, so it's hard to focus on the most meaningful projects. Hence her paintings help her to sort the most important themes.
Xanthe's big goal for 2023 is to finish her second memoir, Bipolar Courage, which is about some of the behind-the-scenes drama during her advocacy as Bipolar Courage. She's decided to make the focus an intense connection with an autistic man (it's a love story but a pretty unconventional one).
