Colour Analysis
Personal, custom, virtual colour analysis by Xanthe Wyse. Choosing colours to enhance your features, based on her own method of a spectrum approach, rather than a limiting seasonal approach.
Aimed at those who prefer a more natural look, not masking their skintone under heavy makeup. Xanthe has always been passionate about colour. Colour was one of the reasons she chose to study analytical chemistry (BSc) back in the '90s. She is a practising artist (exhibited locally) and hobby photographer (commended achievements nationally). She has been described by others as a 'colourful person' (personality) and both an analytical and visual thinker. |
Virtual Colour Analysis
Xanthe is offering her virtual colour analysis service, internationally. Using her skills and knowledge from art, science and photography. Did you know that colour analysis was originally developed by artists and scientists over 100 years ago? And people were recommended to consult and artist to paint a personalised palette?
She is familiar with seasonal colour analysis ('autumn', 'summer', 'winter', spring') with subseasons. However, she views these systems as having many flaws, including preset palettes based on lighter skin tones. There are also some dodgey virtual analysis consultations done, charging a fortune to flick through preset filters, with a photo in bad lighting (which makes colour comparisons invalid).
There is inconsistency with the 'seasonal' system. Not everyone fits neatly into 4 or 12 or 16 palettes. Xanthe was typed as a 'deep autumn' in the '90s, which she generally agrees with, although, she has been complimented on 'out of season' colours. Palettes vary widely between companies/analysts and no one suits all colours equally well in their palettes. Colouring can change with ageing.
Xanthe's approach is to provide a custom palette, with a spectrum approach, based on art and science, rather than a prepackaged method. By virtually selecting, draping and comparing colours, without defaulting to assigning a 'season' or 'subseason' label and preset palette. After all, colours, including human colouring fall on a spectrum, not in discrete preselected categories.
She will consider a person's overall colouring (skintone, eye colour, hair colour). Aim for a balance between harmony and contrast.

How It's Done
The client will provide digital photo(s) to show colouring as per requirements. Lighting is very important for an accurate colour comparison.
Accuracy of colour is important, not the most appealing photo aesthetically. No makeup is to be worn for this consultation. Some additional information may be required if client colours their hair and if they tan easily. Xanthe will adjust for any slight colour casts and will change the background to a neutral which blends with the client's colouring. She will use her eye for colour and skills to digitally drape the client's photo with various colours, to compile a custom digital palette, which will be emailed to the client. Examples of some of the best and worst colours draped, will also be provided, with some guidelines (not rigid rules) for choosing best colours. Coming soon: Requirements for photos and best lighting conditions. |

Cost and payment
Introductory price of NZ $150 (approximately US $86, depending on exchange rates). This is considerably lower than what many are charging, yet still needing to compensate for Xanthe's time and expertise.
Payment is required before analysis via PayPal (a PayPal account is not required). New Zealand clients have the option to pay via bank transfer.

What are the benefits?
Having a palette of recommended colours can help make shopping for clothes easier and to try new colours. To feel more confident and to avoid wasting money on clothes which aren't worn. Also, to help with selecting makeup and hair colours.
It can be helpful to have another opinion on what looks good on you, which can be hard to determine if you are used to only wearing some colours.
